Scissor Sisters - Ta-Dah
![]() Scissor Sisters - Ta-Dah everyone's favorite glam-rock-cabaret-disco-funk outfit is back, two years after their staggeringly popular breakthrough debut, and they aren't here to disappoint. Ta-Dah is an amalgamation of musical instruments and sounds and noises and conflicting feelings you probably thought you'd never see in the same place. let me take you through it a little bit: it's saturday night, and the only thing to do is - you guessed it - go to the disco. ease into it a little bit, some cascading guitars here, some gentle synth there. and suddenly there's the beat; it's catchy and infectious, and it's got your foot tapping and before you know it you're humming along. the meaning of the lyrics is counterintuitive to the feel of this first single, but you don't care. they'll just keep driving it at you, moving into heavy piano and subtle synth and horn nuances. and suddenly you're dropped into some cracked out version of a bluegrass hoedown rich with harmonies and topped with a techno beat, just before you're lowered into the classics with heavy Earth, Wind, & Fire influence and a smattering of Prince even. you hear the steel guitars calling you out to the prairie while an Elton John-meets-a-bit-of-Queen ballad takes you over and up through a key change. the rest is needed when it's all over for a second, and you consider napping to the swelling orchestra, but intermission is a time for ragtime piano and some gumbo down in Louisiana while the clarinet wails on into the same orchestra backing a choir into a Journey-esque 80s new wave-rock montage. you remember the quirkiness of exactly where you are when the falsetto kicks in over the wah of the guitars while it builds into a 70s horn section against the backup singers. the band breaks it down for a while as you're transported back to the 80s once more in an eerie ballad filled with beautiful harmonies, a rocking guitar solo, and more horns. the ragtime pianist is back and layered with a classically trained acoustic guitarist, setting the groove and bringing it back down until - what's that i hear? cowbell. everybody lets loose, you're dancing with the neighbors and the old timers and singing and clapping along and then suddenly - Ta-Dah. there it is. ::::step right in, have a good time: Scissor Sisters - She's My Man Scissor Sisters - I Can't Decide Scissor Sisters - Kiss You Off ::::okay okay, have one more: let me direct back to their official site, their myspace, and to Amazon to preorder the album, which drops on september 26th. also, hit up the Hype to grab the single and say hi and happy friday. |
